SKIN TYPE
Knowing your skin type is a valuable tool on the journey to a great skin and you should take the time to understand your specific skin needs and what it plays well with.
You don't know your skin type, TRY THIS
ADVICE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES
SUNSCREEN
Daily, every day, even if you are inside a cave… No joke there, and it is for everyone
REMOVE YOUR MAKE UP AND SUNSCREEN
Every night. Even if both makes you feel pretty, keeping make up and sunscreen overnight may lead to blemishes and breakout and on the long term alter your sebum production and change your skin type. And NO you do not remove sun screen and make up with a water cleanser, but with an oil cleanser during a first cleanse.
GOOD LIFE HYGIENE
Tough one we know, but staying hydrated consistently, having regular and restful sleep schedule, stop smoking and having balanced food will do wonders…
PATCH TEST
Systematically, with every single product you apply to your body and face, it will save you a lot of discomfort. See more.
EASE INTO ACTIVE
Skincare works well with well balanced and potent ingredients, but your skin may not be able to cope easily with some actives and you should go gradually.
When starting a new active you may mix it with your moisturizer or layer it between 2 layers of moisturizers (sandwich technique).
Start by once a week for a couple of cycles (a cycle is the time that your skin needs to turn over, usually 21 to 28 days) and increase to twice a week for another couple of cycles...
CONSISTENCY
Consistency is the success of all skincare!
AVOID THE UNECESSARY
Fragrance in skincare is a huge issue, as it serves no purpose and can only negatively impact your skin.
Even if you do not see reaction to your skin it does not mean there is no damage being done.
I.e : Sun, if you do not religiously apply sunscreen you are likely to see sun damage appear 10/20 years later…
YOU ARE TOTALLY NEW TO SKINCARE
The goose have the cutest video ever to get you in the groove!
NORMAL SKIN
Skin is generally classified as “normal” if it isn't overly oily or dry and doesn't face any persistent skin concerns or conditions.
This well-balanced healthy skin type has even levels of moisture and hydration, uniform texture and no obvious problem areas (in other words, you've hit the skin care jackpot).
Fine pores No or rare blemishes No sensitivity or regular irritation Smooth texture
Ingredients you should look for:
Centella Asiatica, Algae, Mallow Extract
You are quite lucky and do not have to be concerned by any specialist treatment, but be warned that uniform normal skin all around your face is quite rare and that it may evolve over time. And tend to move to a “dry” skin type later in life. But you do not have a free pass to mistreat your skin either, you should have a simple but efficient and regular skincare routine
Normal skin Basics :
DRY SKIN
The goose classifies the “dry” skin into two separate clusters : Type & Condition.
The best is always to see a medical specialist to assess your skin and help you figure out the best course of action.
If you have dry medical condition : your skin type is called xerosis or you may have eczema and dermatitis and there it is mandatory to seek dermatologist advice. For the others with only a bit more demanding dry skin type, it is important to take actions as the skin may crack and lead to bacteria development in deeper skin layer.
Dry skin type is often created by external factors, such as season, air humidity (or lack thereof), water temperature, air temperature and badly adaptive or use of skincare products.
Basically your skin lacks lipids, struggle to retain moisture and cannot shield itself again external aggression...
How to identify “dry” Skin?
Skin feels tight and/or rough
Skin feels flaky and/or itchy
The skin texture feel, look and color are uneven
Now What?
Try to identify the stressors that lead to your dryness, make a battle plan if possible, you will not be able to do a lot about the stressor if you live in the desert, but knowing the problem will help identify a solution or a plan of action.
Ingredients you should look for:
Ceramide, peptides, cholesterol, sodium PCA and avoid Hyaluronic acid…
Avoid long showers
Too much water on the skin will not help and may be worse for your skin, as well as for the water temperature, always Luke-warm…
Pat, don't rub
It is actually valuable for everyone but especially on dryer skin
Beware of actives
We all want to use the last trendy ingredient, but be extra cautious that it does not make your condition dryer, if you wish to use any higher strength active you should seek a dermatologist and perform a patch test before starting.
Dry skin Basics :
COMBINATION SKIN
It is actually not that common of a skin type, but people get confused with Mix Skin Type. If you are combination your sebum levels are totally unbalanced around your face and over/under produced in some areas.
According to the location of the zone on your face you experience dry area and oily area often in the T zone (Forehead, nose and chin). With dry to normal cheeks and neck.
It is often genetic, but can be caused by poorly adapted or use of skincare products and climate.
How to identify “Combination” Skin?
Humid/glossy appearance
Visible and enlarged pores
Prone to blemishes and comedones
AND
Skin feels tight and/or rough

Ingredients to look for:
Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Vitamin F (Oleic Acid), Lactic Acid
Exfoliate
Yes of course with a blend of AHA and BHA, but not more than once a week, over exfoliating will make your skin even oilier.
Beware of actives
We all want to use the last trendy ingredient, but be extra cautious that it does not make your condition worst, and sometimes you may have to apply different products on different zone. But be cautious as you don’t want a patchy skin!
Combination skin Basics :
OILY SKIN
OK, your sebum production is through the roof, it may be caused by hormones, genetics, stress, climate, medication or make-up/skincare products not adapted, over exfoliating or cleansing.
Always identifying the issue is super important but with oily skin it is often really difficult. Seeking dermatologist advice is recommended.
How to identify “oily” Skin?
Humid/glossy appearance
Visible and enlarged pores
Prone to blemishes and comedones
Ingredients to look for:
Sea Buckthorn, Niacinamide, Terminalia Chebula
Now What?

Beware of actives
We all want to use the last trendy ingredient, but be extra cautious that it does not make your condition oilier.
Exfoliate
Yes of course with a blend of AHA and BHA, but not more than once a week, over exfoliating will make your skin even oilier.
Oily skin Basics :
SENSITIVE SKIN
Your skin is expressive, and somehow it is not all bad, at least you know straight away when you should stop something. But in general you experience quite some discomfort and a lot of reaction.
Often your skin barrier is compromised. Try to identify the reason, if not genetic.
Do not confuse sensitive skin with a medical condition or allergies, which may need medical assistance.
How to identify “Sensitive” Skin?
Skin feels itchy and uneven
You see redness after using skincare products
A hot shower makes you red and patchy
You may see little bumps that disappear within minutes
Ingredients to look for:
Allantoin, Green Tea, Chamomile
Patch test
As everyone should systematically do, with every single product they apply to their body and face.
Beware of actives
You should really go easy… We all want to use the last trendy ingredient, but be extra cautious that it does not make your condition worst.
Sensitive skin Basics :
ACNE PRONE SKIN
The most difficult one, we can write pages for this skin type, but at the end of the day, you may try every product you can find on the web, nothing will replace a visit to the dermatologist, who will be able to identify the type of acne you have, the cause (if any), and how to reduce the stressor (i.e:non adapted skincare product being a major issue, food, hydration, genetic, hormones…).
Once you know which stressors, you may work ahead of the event to reduce the issue
I.e, with hormonal acne, you may want to do a couple of salicylic acid enriched masks a few days prior to your usual acne burst.
If it is related to bad food, try to avoid the bad food or to accept that you will have a burst a couple of days later.
If you have regular or continuous acne, you have to seek a dermatologist opinion as it is a medical condition.
Most people with this skin type will experience breakout often in various localized areas, but their skin clears also for weeks before a new episode. The most important is not to intervene on your comedone and let it pass.
I KNOW IT IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY…
How to identify “acne-prone” Skin?
Easy, you break out
It clears up
Often oily patches in specific area
Ingredients to look for:
Salicylic Acid, Oat, Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)
Do not over work your skincare
Simple is often best for you, or at least until you know the stressor.
Exfoliate
Yes of course with a blend of AHA and BHA, but not more than once a week, over exfoliating will make your skin even oilier.
Beware of actives
We all want to use the last trendy ingredient, but be extra cautious that it does not make your condition worst.
